Gina Obiri, Contract Operations Manager

Gina (she/her) is the Contract Operations Manager at Canopy Mental Health & Consulting, managing the allocation of internal resources for community partnerships and contracts. Prior to joining Canopy, Gina managed the Civic Innovation division of the Department of Performance Management and Innovation (PMI / OPI) in the City of Minneapolis. Using human-centered design, strategic planning, and a relentless commitment to equity, she led the process to design and develop unarmed public safety alternatives with community members, including the Minneapolis Behavioral Crisis Response (BCR) - Minnesota's first mental health first responder unit dispatched by 911 to emergency mental health calls.

Gina is passionate about social justice and prioritizing the needs of Black and brown communities who continue to be harmed by system racism and uninvited to essential decision-making tables. In addition to her work in Minneapolis, she has demonstrated these passions while supporting crime victim service organizations in the Minnesota Office of Justice Programs and promoting health equity at Saint Paul - Ramsey County Public Health. Gina holds a Master of Public Health, specializing in policy and administration, from the University of Minnesota and a bachelor of arts in economics from Carleton College.

Outside of work, Gina enjoys visiting new restaurants, scuba diving in tropical waters, and diamond painting. Being born and raised in Minneapolis fostered her deep love for the truffle popcorn at Lake Harriet, community shows at Capri Theater, and the Minnesota Twins.
