Meet the Team
Candace Hanson, LPCC, Executive Director
Candace is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) in the state of Minnesota, and a BBHT Board-Approved Supervisor. Prior to her work at Canopy MHC Candace has worked in a variety of capacities and settings in the mental health field, including program management, clinical supervision, crisis services, intensive residential treatment services (IRTS), inpatient hospitalization, outpatient therapy, case management, and substance use disorder treatment. Candace's career focus and passion is on providing culturally responsive care and thinking innovatively about how clients and clinicians of color are supported and engaged in treatment settings, and in the workplace. She is also passionate about working to decriminalize and destigmatize mental illness and promoting mental wellness, particularly in the black community.
Originally from Atlanta, GA, the Twin Cities are Candace’s beloved adopted home. You might catch her Nordic skiing at the parks in the winter, playing video games, biking at the U of M Arboretum, cooking up a masterpiece in the kitchen, or at Allianz Field watching the Loons play. She is married, with 3 children (2 cats, 1 human).
